Installing linux 2.6 kernel

On debian it’s really easy. Make sure you have 3 packages installed before you boot into 2.6 for the first time:

module-init-tools
hotplug
devfsd

There are 2 ways to do cd burning support:

1. the 2.4 way — enable ide-scsi emulation, disable ide-cdrom support. enable scsi-generic support and scsi-cdrom support.
2. the 2.6 way — enable ide-cdrom support.

create a /sys directory before booting into it. then edit /etc/fstab. copy the /proc entry and change it to /sys and make whatever else on the line be sysfs (says rawb).
