WritingUp.com Growing

We hit 300 bloggers sometime last week. We have 335 right now, and our alexa rank is climbing pretty quickly.

Not bad for having only launched it less than 2 months ago. Especially considering that the site looks terrible, isn’t very clear for how to refer someone, and I haven’t really started marketing it yet.

We have some big marketing campaigns slated for the near future, which include a bigger PPC campaign, a PR campaign, an emailing campaign (I met 2 people this weekend at the Big Seminar who have mailing lists of 650,000 and 15 million business opportunity seekers, who have double opted in to their lists…and they’re very willing to send an email about it), a newspaper press campaign, and finally a campaign to get the users to promote it more than they are already doing it.

I have had quite a few users ask me how they can promote their own blog and I’m putting together a plan for them.

The best part about the growth are the emails I get from people saying they’re starting to make money. It’s amazing how much confidence making just a little extra money will give you. If you can do it online once, you can repeate it 100 or 1000 times.

Plus, the more the site grows, the more money each person is going to make because people on the site read each others blogs.

Exciting.

I just signed up yesterday. You have yourself a great venture going here John!

But the site seems to be down today? Server issues?

Hey John,
I’m sure you are being bombarded by emails so I’m just going to leave an unobtrusive comment here. “Fatal errror” at writingUp? I hope it’s not really fatal and writingUp will be back soon. I know you’re working hard, and I appreciate it.

p.s. My sympathies on the Barf-o-rama.

WritingUp.com seems to be having trouble. I was excited at the prospect of participating in this venture after I found out about it on a local Craig’s List posting. I hope I get the chance to start my blog soon!

John,
Is there a problem with the Writingup servers? Access rates are crawling and my blog returns a “contains no data” when I try to access it. Is someone doing a DoS attack on you? I really like the concept at WritingUp, but now that my blog is taking off, I’m getting a lot of feedback when people tell me my blog wouldn’t load. Any plans for addressing this issue?

Writingup.com is great. Waiting to see what happens next is even better.

Unfortunately, my luck finding the site up lately so I can post is next to nothing.

As soon as I get home from work and fire up the PC, I click on my writingup bookmark and sit back eagerly in hopes of the site being up.

There has been a couple of times that I have said “Yes!! It’s up and now its time to submit!!”. But, after a quick restroom break the site would be down again.

Honestly, complaining is the only thing I don’t want to do. My whole reason for this reply is to say that even with the challenges writingup is hurdling, I still have not created a blog at any other blog site let alone even searching for others.

Hey John, let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I could come by and pull some weeds and mow the lawn for starters. I’m in Vegas so it’s safe to say could probably get there only spending $130.00 in gas. LOL.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Writingup.com has been down for quite some time now - will it be fixed soon…this has been happening an awful lot lately.

Writingup.com is been down now and in recent time has been down for days at a time.

Can we expect Writingup to come back online? If so can we expect the site to stay online?

Many good writers and visitors are likely to leave and not return if the site is unreliable.

This is such a great site and has great content. Can we help in any way?

See my web page for a better paying alternative to google ads. 5,000,000 free credits to start and you get paid good money for havein their ads shown on your pages. You are not paid for clicks but payed for showing ads.

Please can we have a response her asap. Many Writingup must be worried about their content at writingup.

Lots of writingup members are wondering what happened to the site. Most sense that it won’t be back up and running again, but there is still a sense of disappointment and betrayal, given your silence in regards to explaining what happened.

For the most part, you had little trouble with members; we were pretty content with the site and willing to cooperate with you however in order to make it work. The least you could do is communicate with them. Either say ‘good bye, thanks for participating, sorry it couldn’t continue’ or ’sorry for all the trouble, I think we’ve got it under control now’.

What would it cost you to tell us what happened, eh?

Growing??? A person can’t even get on and you say it’s growing?? Of course, that WAS 2005!

Dear John…

Please let us know what is going on. If writingup is over - we would like some resolution. Thanks.

Jon, I would love to get back all the posts I lost on the old WritingUp blogsite.

Any possibilities?

Well, it is 2008 now - and still no “return of writingup”.
Atlantis and Jesus haven’t returned either; and I’m 100% sure the latter WILL… But that is another story!

I can imagine all the hassles of managing such a huge site could have brought; and I understand it was probably too much for one man or even a small group, especially if it WAS growing exponentially…

I am somewhat annoyed that I lost the original content I posted there - but happy that I had the foresight of using mostly material that I had previously posted on my “main blog”…

Here’s hoping none of the other providers of such services ever just vanish and take it all down like that - because many of us have devoted HOURS of our time to these things, showcasing our ideas and giving voice to the creativity that oftentimes lays dormant within us for an entire lifetime…

Having said all that, I remain convinced John didn’t just leave us all high and dry - there were other factors there, I am certain of it. Every guy named John I have ever known has always been an honest man, reliable, whose word was his bond. That is a constant that I’m willing to trust, especially since my own Dad was named John.

Godspeed, John

Here’s what happened with writingup.com:

1. I never expected it to grow so fast
2. I made some mistakes with how I set it up and it never got the traffic I expected it to get from the search engines. Hence, it never made the amount of money it should have made.
3. The growth was too much for the servers (yes, I said serverS…I had 4 large servers running it) I had and it was killing my entire network of servers, which in turn killed the sites that were/are making me money.

So, because writingup.com was killing my sites that were making me money, I had to take it down.

I tried numerous times to put it back up but the software combined with the traffic was just too much for my servers to handle.

I still have all the blog posts and the site still functions, it’s just down. I’m actively trying to find someone with the time/expertise necessary to take it over and get it running properly.

Sorry for all the headaches I’ve caused you. For many months I worked 80 hours per week on writingup only to see that the software + traffic was too much for my resources.

John

You have the articles from writingup.com? Could you send the articles I had there? (as literary_pyro) I could use them or reference them later.
