You have the articles from writingup.com? Could you send the articles I had there? (as literary_pyro) I could use them or reference them later.

Here's what happened with writingup.com:

1. I never expected it to grow so fast
2. I made some mistakes with how I set it up and it never got the traffic I expected it to get from the search engines. Hence, it never made the amount of money it should have made.
3. The growth was too much for the servers (yes, I said serverS...I had 4 large servers running it) I had and it was killing my entire network of servers, which in turn killed the sites that were/are making me money.

So, because writingup.com was killing my sites that were making me money, I had to take it down.

I tried numerous times to put it back up but the software combined with the traffic was just too much for my servers to handle.

I still have all the blog posts and the site still functions, it's just down. I'm actively trying to find someone with the time/expertise necessary to take it over and get it running properly.

Sorry for all the headaches I've caused you. For many months I worked 80 hours per week on writingup only to see that the software + traffic was too much for my resources.

Well, it is 2008 now - and still no "return of writingup".
Atlantis and Jesus haven't returned either; and I'm 100% sure the latter WILL... But that is another story!

I can imagine all the hassles of managing such a huge site could have brought; and I understand it was probably too much for one man or even a small group, especially if it WAS growing exponentially...

I am somewhat annoyed that I lost the original content I posted there - but happy that I had the foresight of using mostly material that I had previously posted on my "main blog"...

Here's hoping none of the other providers of such services ever just vanish and take it all down like that - because many of us have devoted HOURS of our time to these things, showcasing our ideas and giving voice to the creativity that oftentimes lays dormant within us for an entire lifetime...

Having said all that, I remain convinced John didn't just leave us all high and dry - there were other factors there, I am certain of it. Every guy named John I have ever known has always been an honest man, reliable, whose word was his bond. That is a constant that I'm willing to trust, especially since my own Dad was named John.

Godspeed, John
