Another Adsense Account Banned
Boy, this is getting tiresome.
I got another email from someone I know today telling me that google has shut down their adsense account. That’s about the 6th one in the last month.
So why all of a sudden is click fraud such a major concern of google’s?
Why wasn’t it a major concern a year and a half ago?
Is it because they were profiting from it for so long, but now the threat of something bad happening to them because of it is so great that the risk finally outweighs the reward?
It turns out that none of the accounts that were banned were actual cases of click fraud. I knew 5 of the 6 people. Now, I guess it’s totally possible that they all really were clicking on their ads, even though they told me they weren’t, but somehow I doubt it.
Plus, if they were clicking, they sure as heck weren’t doing it with an automated script. These were all non-techie people. If they were committing click fraud, it was on a very, very small scale, I promise. So why is google going so heavily after the little guys right now, and not concentrating on the large click fraud perpetrators?

John, if I were you I would definately check in detail the activity of many of your “writers” over at writingup.com. I visited that site for less than 5 minutes and found blatant breach of Adsense’s TOS.
There are members telling other members how they clicked on the author’s ads to boost their revenue. You may want to watch your account so it doesn’t get banned as well.
Regards,
Vince
Thanks for the heads up. I have told the members of writingup.com repeatedly not to do that, and that if they do, they are in danger of getting their account banned. Some of them refuse to listen. I’m going to have to post it again.
Check the unscientific poll on my site, for folks who’ve been banned by Google adsense (like me).
About 70% say they didn’t cheat.
I like your blog, btw - I just found it today through a comment on JenSense.

I’m Blogging for Free
The behaviour of a few bad apples is putting all WritingUp bloggers at risk of losing their Adsense accounts. No, not “at risk” — because it’s happening already. We’re losingo some people who add a great deal of value to this community blogs…
A bored kid dials the neighborhood pizza parlour and orders 2 pepperoni pizzas for delivery. He give the address of an abandoned house.
Ten minutes later, he does it again, this time to a different abandoned house.
Ten minutes later, he does it yet again.
At some point, the delivery guys come back and complain, but the damage is done.
Should the pizza parlour stop delivering?
Or should they get caller ID and ban the little trouble-maker?
The example is not perfect, because Google has caller-id, but chooses to ban the owners of the abandoned houses!!!
Now, what sense does that make?
Here is another problem:
You live in a dormitory that’s wired for internet access. You pay your tuition with the income from WritingUp’s AdSense.
You go out for a pizza
While you’re there, enjoying your pizza and thinking “life is good”, your room mate comes home and logs on to your computer.
Roomie proceeds to “visit” WritingUp, sees your latest blog,
decides to “help” you out and clicks on ads for a solid twenty minutes.
Two days later, you get this email:
Subject: *Google AdSense Account Disabled
From : adsense-adclicks@google.com
Don’t Click Your Own Ads!
If you click your own ads, you will get your adsense account banned by google. Then you’ll never be able to make money.
If you advertise clicking on someone elses ads, you’ll either get your account banned, or you’ll get their account banned, or BO…
I get that I should not click on my own blogs, but will it hurt anything for me to click on
the replies? I would really like to read the responses to my posts to see how they are being
received. Is this also a violation?
You’re totally fine clicking on the replies. There’s nothing wrong with that.
This whole AdSense thing
confuses me. First, do
people really click on
these ads at all? And if
I were to find an ad on
my blog that I really am
interested in, why can’t
I click on it? I might
really want to see what
the ad is about? It is
like some weird control
issue… the ad-police
will get ya if ya click
on that ad! What is the
point in having them
there then? Sounds too
much like Ad-Hell. For
the piddly little money
this *might* generate,
it isn’t worth the
trouble.
If you are interested in what the ad says…you can simply stype the url into your browser. Every google ad has the url clearly typed under it.
Sir
with all coursey let me ask i never understood why i cannot browse this site. I prefer you tell me by E-mail and please do not publish this
thank you

What happens if I accidently click on an ad on my page?? I was trying to scroll up and hit the mouse button!!!
That’s happened to me several times. I try to copy my text and hit an ad instead. I have hit
the back button right away the three or so times it has happened and it hasn’t appeared in my
google adsense report, so I hope I’m safe. Now if I want to copy I hit the edit button and
then copy from the stuff at the bottom.
Yeah, similar experience here and you can’t control other people clicking on your site. I’ve finally restored my adsense account, here is my article that provides more details: “How
to Bring Google AdSense Down” or “You Are Guilty But We Will Not Tell
You Why”. Good luck!
Google Horror Stories are far too common and I myself finally succumbed to the google monster and had my adsense account closed as well. I believe that Google looks at us small advertisers and publishers as expendable, so they treat us like crap. Because I belive that all advertisers and publishers should be treated with respect regardless of how big or small we all, I have started http://www.googlehorrorstories.net. This site is designed to allow all advertisers and publishers a place where their voices can be heard in the hope to effect positive change at Google. Please feel free to signup and write you google horror story article..
Hi,
I hope this isn’t taken as “spam”, but I wanted to let your readers know about a product I offer called AdSenseClickLock at http://www.AdsenseClickLock.com that helps to minimize the possiblity of your Adsense account being banned from click fraud (intentional or otherwise).
AdsenseClickLock can limit how many times your adsense ads are shown, or even limit page views using cookies as well as IP tracking.
While no solution can safeguard your account 100%, using AdsenseClickLock will help to deter many types of click fraud. Again, even if it’s your Mom, spouse or friend trying to “help” you make money.
I appreciate this opportunity to share this product with your readers and enjoy your blog.
Thanks,
Don
