Refereeing in the USA World Cup Game vs. Italy

If you missed the USA world cup game today you missed a show.

Sure, the US still can’t seem to find a way to score a goal on their own (Italy scored the US goal for them today), but this one was worth watching.

This one was worth watching just for the refereeing alone.

The ref was soooooo out of control today that he’ll hopefully lose his job because of it.

I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game (yeah, I’m a soccer fan. During the last world cup I got up at 2am almost every night to watch the games) in which 3 players were ejected.

Totally ridiculous.

On another note, what is up with the strikers in this cup. I’ve never seen a lazier bunch of athletes in my life. They just don’t seem to care if they’re offsides….ever.

Hi!

USA fought a good fight, but the referee should not be blamed. I have seen the replays:
- De Rossi well deserved the red card for the punch.
- Mastroeni had a killer tackle. Clearly red card. He went for the player (look at his feet, he didn’t even try to bend his knees, to protect the player)
- the only red card I am in doubt is Pope’s. Idon’t think the second yellow should have been awarded. Maybe a warning and, at the next bad tackling, red card.

Anyway, maybe the fact they played in 9 made them fight even more.

And I have to agree with you: strikers seem to think about the beaches and the holidays, more than the games. Most goals were scored by midfielders and even defenders.
