I think a lot of people are missing the point here. Yes VLC and GOM are free ways to speed up the playback of video files already on your hard drive. What MySpeed does is speed up the playback of online, streaming videos.

VLC.org has a free video player that I've been using for years. Will speed up video AND audio up to 4 times as fast. At that rate you can't understand it. But with practice you can get used to 2.5 times the speed. It also depends on the speaker. If you've got a slow speaker, you can crank it up to 3.5 speed and zip through his presentation easily. As I said, this baby is free and it works wonders. There's a Mac and a Windows version. You can go to VLC.org or download it here. http://www.vlcmediaplayer-new.info/yax1.html I don't think anyone needs to pay $29.95 for the player John mentions. (No offense intended). Once you get your hands on the free VLC you'll see what I mean. Save your money.

I had he same issue so I created FasterAudio which create new accelerated MP3 files at up to 400% of slow boring regular speed for speed-listening on my portable Mp3 players.

Considering I watch at least 6 hrs of video (now about 3 thanks to you) I now have a bit more time to conduct other aspects of my business…..I am kicking myself though for not trying to find a solution to a problem i didn't know i had until you came up with it…..good job

I have been looking for soooo long to find some good info on this topic. I have been hosting my videos on Amazon AzS3 and have been having challenges with speed. Have taken a lot away from here. Good stuff.

Hi John,

MySpeed is a GREAT tool. I’ve owned it for about 6 months. It saves me SO much time. It’s amazing that they can speed up the video without the “Chipmunk” affect on the voice quality. It simply sounds like the person is talking faster and is VERY easy to understand.

Anybody know if these above media speeder-uppers will export the faster file? like speeding up an audio file, than exporting that fast playback to mp3 so I can put in on my iPod or burn it to a cd to listen to fast in the car?

I’m a fan of VLC Media Player – if you set the tempo correction flag in the settings, you can speed up video w/o turning people into sounding like chipmunks which makes it much easier to listen to any media file (video or audio) faster.
