Philippines Outsourcing Tip 9 of 16: How To Pay Your People

It’s important that you know multiple ways of paying your people.
Sometimes one will stop working.

Ways to pay your people
xoom.com
emoneygram.com
paypal.com
remithome.com

Update
Currently the cheapest way to pay is using paypal.com directly to your people. Use Mass Pay (you have to upgrade your paypal account, which is free) and they only charge you $1.
Another option for people in Australia is OrbitRemit.com. I haven’t used it personally, so I can’t vouch for it, but it looks like a good option.

What do you do if you pay someone and you never hear from them again?

Hey John,

Xoom no longer do business with people who don't have a US bank account or US Debit or Credit card. They also no longer take paypal transactions.

Could this be their end or is there something strategic here that I'm missing?

Its crazy hey.. Im in Australia, and my company is in Canada, and neither of us can pay our Filipino staff at the moment.. our staff dont have bank accounts so they cant even get a PayPal account.. can't even signup for MoneyBooker, MoneyGram, Remit something.. everything that everyone in the US can use. Ive asked the staff to try and find something that we can pay them in. Xoom has really stuffed us up with this one, we need to be able to pay our people. PayPal is definitely more convenient for us, but not necessarily for our staff, and I want to make sure we have staff that are happy with us and with the way they get paid. I ended up paying all our staff a month in advance yesterday (the final day we could use Xoom without a US bank account) and now we're trying to either get a US bank account setup or find alternatives. If you find anything, please let us know, and I'll do the same.

I suggest telling your staff to open up a BDO Checking Account (Banco de Oro). Paypal recently started accepting their checking account and bdo debit cards to verify the accounts, no need for a credit card. That way, they can transfer money directly from their paypal cards into their checking accounts for free. Paypal says it will be transferred within 5 days, in my experience it hits the account in 2 days.

As for paypal being expensive with fees, well, if you use Mass pay it will only cost you $1 regardless of the amount of the transaction.

I have been using Xoom.com as well, but don't no quite what to do now. So if anyone finds a site like Xoom where the users do not need bankaccounts I would be greatful if they shared it.

Hi All I am in Australia too and am totally lost as to what to do next. Re Xoom and Filipinos

So far I have found Western Union is an option although its a bit painful you need to call them to confirm teh transaction number each time and it does not go into banks only pick up at lots of locations

Anyone used them or found anyone else for outside US?

Thanks alot

Manny

**Aussies**
Try using http://www.orbitremit.com/

I haven't used it (I'm not in Australia), but it's supposed to be really easy from Australia.

Im a Filipino. When you research about how to get your money from PayPal other people here commonly suggest having a Union Bank Account because they have Visa.If you check Union Bank’s website they already have instructions for us on how to verify our paypal account with them.
