It seems odd, but blogging is a good way of getting traffic to your website. If you are an expert in your field, and write entries that are useful and interesting and unique, people will find your blog. The more content you have the more content google will index and the more likely people will find you through google. Remember, about 60% of internet searches are unique. People aren’t searching for the same terms as the next guy. Only 40% of searches are a repeat of what someone else searched for.

Also, almost any software you use will have a page somewhere saying what blogs use that software. Both of the blogs I use have a page that has a list of people using it. I get quite a bit of traffic from both of them.
